The Mattress Care Essentials Checklist
- The ‘First Day’ Airing When your mattress arrives, remove the plastic packaging and let it air for at least 4 hours before putting sheets on. This allows any 'new mattress smell' to dissipate and lets the materials breathe.
- Fit a Mattress Protector (Day 1) This is non-negotiable! A waterproof, breathable protector prevents sweat, spills, and allergens from entering the fillings.

✅ The Daily Airing Every morning, pull your duvet back for 20 minutes before making the bed. This allows body moisture to evaporate, preventing dust mites and dampness.
✅ Rotate Weekly (First 3 Months) New fillings need to settle evenly. Rotate your mattress head-to-toe once a week for the first 12 weeks.
- Is it double-sided? Remember to flip it over, too!

✅ Rotate Monthly (After 3 Months) Once settled, switch to a monthly rotation schedule. Use the changing seasons as a reminder.
✅ Vacuum Quarterly Every 3 months, gently vacuum your mattress and base using an upholstery attachment to remove dust and fluff.
✅ Check Your Base Annually Once a year, check that your divan base or bed frame is still solid. Tighten any loose screws and check slats aren't broken. A sagging base will ruin a new mattress!
